Ms. Shanah Ali

Shanah Ali is a dedicated community advocate whose work centers on educational equity, civic engagement, and empowering Black students and families. She serves as Secretary and Education Committee Chair for her local NAACP branch, where she champions policies and initiatives that promote student achievement, family engagement, and equitable educational opportunities.

A passionate advocate for educational justice, Shanah regularly attends school board meetings and district discussions throughout the region, ensuring that the voices of Black students and families are represented in decisions that shape educational policy and practice. She is also an active member of multiple District African American Parent Advisory Committees (DAAPACs) in the High Desert region, where she helps plan culturally significant events celebrating Black history, culture, and student achievement while strengthening partnerships between families and school leaders.

Shanah served as a classroom instructor at Muhammad University of Islam, teaching students in first through sixth grade in a multi-grade learning environment. Currently, as a small business owner, Shanah brings an independent perspective to The Upliftment Collective. Her ability to engage directly with school boards, superintendents, and community leaders allows her to advocate fearlessly for policies and practices that support Black students and promote accountability. She is widely respected for her courage, cultural awareness, and unwavering commitment to justice and equity.

Grounded in the principles of Black history, cultural pride, and self-determination, Shanah believes that meaningful advocacy begins with identity, empowerment, and community. She is dedicated to creating environments where Black youth and families feel seen, valued, supported, and equipped to succeed.

Beyond education, Shanah is committed to serving the broader community through collaborative outreach initiatives. She has partnered with the City of Barstow, local elected officials, businesses, and community organizations to organize back-to-school resource events providing free haircuts, hairstyling, school supplies, and access to essential community resources. She also coordinated a regional coat drive that supplied winter coats to foster youth attending schools across the High Desert.

Through leadership, collaboration, and service, Shanah continues to build meaningful partnerships that strengthen communities, expand opportunities, and inspire lasting change.
